Develops skills in performing electrocardiograms used in physicians’ offices and hospitals.

Description

This course teaches the proper preparation and electrode placement, operation of the ECG machine and the anatomy and function of the heart as it relates to the waveforms that are produced. Students learn to recognize all parts of the basic waveform, calculate heart rate and measure blood pressure. Knowledge is then expanded to include recognition and understanding of atrial and ventricular dysrhythmias, in particular ischemia and myocardial infarction. The course concludes with the identification of basic cardiovascular medications. Hands-on experience in our own clinical setting. Students will be eligible for the National Exam upon successful completion of the course. Twelve-week course (48 hours)

objectives

This training will help you develop skills in performing electrocardiograms which are used to help in the diagnosis of heart problems in both physician’s offices, and hospitals. You will learn the proper preparation and placement for electrodes, and how to operate the ECG machine. You will also learn the anatomy and function of the heart as it relates to the waveforms that are produced.

By the end of the course, you will learn to recognize all basic parts of the waveform, be able to calculate heart rate, and measure blood pressure for your patients. After that, your knowledge will be expanded to include recognition and understanding of atrial and ventricular dysrhythmias (abnormal heartbeat), ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart), and myocardial infarction (heart attack). The course concludes with learning and being able to identify basic cardiovascular medications.

Clinical practice

You will also receive hands-on experience with patients in our own clinical setting. Students will be able to become eligible for State Certification with successful completion of this course. The course is Twelve weeks. Clinical practice will be as scheduled.
