Introduces the basic principles and application of CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases) to prepare students for a career in medical billing and coding in a variety of healthcare settings.

Description

This system converts uniform descriptions of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services into five-digit numeric codes. Insurance reimbursement is then based on the codes submitted. Patient morbidity and mortality are classified for indexing and storage of hospital records. Understanding of evaluation and management services will be emphasized, and the student will become familiar with the most current CPT and ICD10-CM manuals. Medical Terminology course required. Students will be eligible for the National Exam upon successful completion of the course. Twenty-two-week course (176 hours)

In this course, you will learn the basic principles and application of CPT (current procedural terminology) and ICD-10-CM (International Classification of Diseases). This will help prepare you for a career in medical billing and coding in a variety of healthcare settings. The system you will earn converts uniform descriptions of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services into five-digit numeric codes. These codes are then submitted to the insurance for reimbursement. These codes are also used for patient morbidity and mortality rates and then are classified for indexing and storage of hospital records.

You will also learn to understand the evaluation and management services. You will learn and become familiar with the most current CPT and ICD10-CM manuals. You will be required to complete the prerequisite class in Medical Terminology.

Students will be able to become eligible for State Certification with successful completion of this course. The course is twenty-two weeks. (176 hours).
