The course integrates medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology with an understanding of laboratory tests and their clinical correlation. Proper collection techniques and safety are emphasized in a clinical setting. Stresses personal characteristics and interpersonal skills necessary for a successful career. Students will be eligible for the National Exam upon successful completion of the course. Twelve-week course (96 hours)
This course is designed to give students the basic phlebotomy skills needed for a career as a phlebotomy technician. You will learn venipuncture (inserting a needle into a vein) skills that will prepare you for work in a laboratory, hospital, or physician’s office. This course will teach you medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology with an understanding of laboratory tests and their clinical implications.
You will learn the proper collection techniques as well as safety skills that will be emphasized in the clinical training. You will also be instructed in personal characteristics and interpersonal skills that are integral for patient interaction and maintaining a successful career.
You will also receive hands-on experience with patients in a clinical setting. Students will be able to become eligible for State Certification with successful completion of this course. The course is Twelve weeks (96 hours). Clinical practice will be as scheduled.
